Wildlife Weekend: Garden Wise, Dumfries

Saturday 15 September - Sunday 16 September 2007

The event will take place from 10am - 4pm on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16th September at Garden Wise in Dumfries and a number of local wildlife groups and organisations will be attending. DGERC are hoping to link up with the local members group of Scottish Wildlife Trust to focus on moths and moth recording, but we will have lots of other information on wildlife recording in the region available too.

On Saturday the event will also be attended by Simon King, wildlife filmmaker and co-presenter of the BBC Spring Watch and Autumn Watch programmes.

Dumfries & Galloway Environment Fair

Saturday 08 March 2008, 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

Loreburn Hall, Dumfries

Public family event with information, activities, stalls etc covering all things environmental.

Entrance and admission free to all ages.

Whale and Dolphin Watch

Sunday 30 March 2008, 11:00 am

Join members of the local cetacean group to look out for whales, dolphins and porpoises off the Rhinns coast. Information on how to look for and identify the species found in the region will be available. No booking necessary, but please note that the watch is weather dependent and may be cancelled in the event of very poor weather conditions. Contact organiser if in doubt.

DGERC Woodland Conference

Murray Arms, Gatehouse of Fleet

A conference open to everyone, celebrating the woodlands of Dumfries and Galloway and launching DGERCs new Woodland Guardians Project.

Speakers t.b.c. but will include presentations on wood pasture creation, the Ancient Tree Hunt and the work of the BTO. In the afternoon there will be a selection of field trips to nearby woodland sites.

cost: £5 including lunch and refreshments.
Free to anyone taking part in the Woodland Guardians project.

Located at the foot of Lotus Hill, the forest rides are home to feeding bats and the spectacular Glow-worm. Join DGERC staff for a night time walk to look for these unusual creatures.

Dumfries and Galloway Bat Group needs your help to provide better accommodation for bats at Carstramon Wood, Gatehouse of Fleet. The group are replacing the old timber boxes with new , longer-lasting boxes.

Come along and learn about these fascinating mammals and their lives.

Why not come and help record wildlife around Colvend and Dalbeattie Forest as part of Dumfries and Galloway’s first BioBlitz? A BioBlitz is a wildlife recording event when experienced experts and beginners come together to help to record as many of the species found in a particular area as possible - all in a single day! Its a great opportunity to learn a little more about Dumfries and Galloway's fantastic wildlife.
